Adi Kailash Om Parvat Yatra (Dharchula to Dharchula)

Overview

Adi Kailash (Chhota Kailash) and Om Parvat are sacred Himalayan destinations near the Indo-Tibet border in Pithoragarh. Adi Kailash (5,945 m), believed to be the abode of Lord Shiva, is a spiritual alternative to Mount Kailash, with holy sites like Parvati Sarovar and Gauri Kund, while Om Parvat (5,590 m) is famous for its natural “ॐ” snow formation.

Accessible via Dharchula with permits, the journey is best from May–June and September–October. It involves high-altitude travel, basic stays, and limited network, but rewards you with divine energy, raw Himalayan beauty, peaceful meditation spots, and a truly life-changing spiritual experience.

  • Arrive in Dharchula and complete the mandatory Inner Line Permit formalities and medical check-up.

  • Drive towards Nabi / Gunji, the base for Adi Kailash and Om Parvat Yatra.

  • En route, stop at Chialekh, a scenic high-altitude meadow.

  • Visit Manokamna Temple (time permitting).

  • After Dharchula, enter a no-network zone for 3–4 days, so inform your family in advance.

  • By evening, reach Nabi/Gunji, check into a traditional homestay, and rest for proper acclimatization due to altitude gain.
